Maritime Bowl II
Saint John Wanderers 50 Halifax Shockers 12
The Wanderers
took the opening kickoff and proceeded to march down the field. Jon Haines
romped 30 yards for the game's first touchdown and Jeff Gillies added the
convert to put Saint John ahead 7-0. Later in the quarter Wanderers' defensive
lineman Todd White blocked a Halifax pass, caught it and returned it 50 yards
for a touchdown. Gillies added the convert and then proceed to kick a single on
the ensuing kickoff to put Saint John up 15-0 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter the Wanderers
put together another long scoring drive that ended with a two yard run for a
touchdown by Kevin Muise. Muise would add the two point convert on a pass from
John Hachey to make the score 23-0.
The Shockers finally got on the
board late in the half. QB Chris Livingston found Dave Dehmel in behind the
Wanderers secondary. Dehemel got to the Saint John five yard line before being
tackled. Several plays later Alan Wetmore bulled in from the one yard line to
narrow the gap to 23-6 at the half.
Saint John stretched their lead
to 29-6 in the third on a 20 yard TD pass from QB Jon Hachey to Doug McPhee.
Early in the fourth quarter
Wanderers' defensive back Marcus Whittingham made the special teams play of the
game with a scintillating 75 yard punt return for a touchdown. Gillies' convert
made it 36-6.
Halifax made it 36-12 when
Livingstone found Terry Holland in behind the Wanderers' DBs on a 50 yard pass
and run play for six points.
However, on it's next possession the
Wanderers restored their lead when Jon Haines raced 40 yards for his second
touchdown of the game. Gillies converted and Saint John lead 43-12.
In the final minute Scott Eatmon
would punch another six pointer in from the one yard line. Gillies converted
again making the final score 50-12.
With the win the Saint John Wanderers
claimed the McIntyre Cup, emblematic of the Maritime Senior Football
Championship. Jon Haines was selected as the Wanderers "Player of the
Game" with Maurice Carvery getting the nod for the Shockers.

Saint John Wanderers 33 Moncton Marshals 13
The
Wanderers opened the scoring midway through the first quarter when QB Jon Hachey
found Doug McPhee in the end zone for a 20 yard touchdown pass.
Saint John would stretch their lead
in the second quarter. First Hachey would score on a 12 yard run. Later he found
Jon Haines on a short swing pass that would go for a 35 yard touchdown. Jeff
Gillies added the convert, giving the Wanderers a 19-0 halftime lead.
In the third Hachey found Gillies in
the end zone for a 15 yard TD strike. Gillies booted the convert and the lead
was stretched to 26-0.
Finally, in the fourth the Marshals
got on the board when Alex Best went in from the one yard line to narrow the
score to 26-6. The Wanderers answered back with a drive of their own that lead
to another Hachey TD pass, a 25 yarder to Doug McPhee. Gillies' convert boosted
the lead to 33-6.
In the closing minutes Moncton would
score once more. This time Shawn Wareham's one yard plunge did the job. The
convert was good, making the final score 33-13.
As New Brunswick champions the
Wanderers won the Percy Burchill Trophy.

Greg Smith's
punt for a single with five minutes remaining in a the game was the only scoring
in a hard fought defensive battle between two evenly matched teams.

The Wanderers
got on the board late in the first quarter on Jon Haines 4 yard touchdown run on
fourth down. Kevin Muise would score Saint John's second TD on a 15 yard gallop
with less than three minutes remaining in the half to put the Wanderers up 12-0
at halftime.
Wanderers QB John Hachey
connected with Jeff Gillies on a 10 yard touchdown pass early in the third
quarter. Hachey would find Kevin Muise in the end zone for the two point
convert.

Moncton Marshals 30 Capital Area Gladiators 15
The
Marshals opened the scoring late in the first quarter on Alex Best's one yard
run. Mike Gallant added the convert. The Gladiators pulled even in the second
quarter when Lee Hoyt hooked up with Alex Paul on a 35 yard pass and run play.
Ted Turnbull added the convert.
Moncton went ahead again late in the half when QB
Matt Theriault went in from the one yard line. Gallant again added the convert.
The Moncton defence sacked Gladiators QB Lee Hoyt on the last play of the first
half for a safety to bring the score to 16-7. Hoyt did not return to the game in
the second half.
Marshals' DB Jamie Stacey picked off an errant Capital
Area pass early in the third and returned it 30 yards for the touchdown. Gallant
added the convert to make the score 23-7. He would add another single on a
missed field goal to make it 24-7.
The Gladiators got back in the game when DB Greg Thomas
picked off a Marshals pass at his own goal line and returned it 110 yards for
six points. Jeff Taylor rushed for the two point conversion to narrow the score
to 24-15.
Moncton would add one more touchdown on a 10 yard pass
from Theriault to Alex Best late in the fourth to bring the final score to
30-15.

The
Shockers opened the scoring in the first quarter when Mo Carvery capped a long
drive with a two yard plunge. Alan Wetmore added the convert.
In the third quarter Rodney
Fraser returned an interception 13 yards to increase the lead to 13-0. Simonds
answered when Richard Naves found Kyle Stratton on a 20 yard TD pass. Blennas
Noiles added the convert to narrow the gap to 13-7.
Halifax got an insurance score
late in the fourth when Carvery rumbled 35 yards for his second major.

Nick Desilets Memorial Game
Capital Area Gladiators 31 Simonds Seadogs 25
The Seadogs
opened the scoring in the first quarter on Richard Naves 1yard run after a long
drive. Simonds extended their lead to 13-0 in the second quarter when Naves
found Jermy Smith on a 3 yard touchdown pass. Smith converted his TD.
The Gladiators got on the board after a
long drive lead to Lee Hoyts's 5 yard run up the middle for six points. Ted
Turnbull added the convert to cut the lead to 13-7.
Simonds answered back with a drive of their
own. Richard Naves scored on a one yard run to put the Seadogs up 19-7.
The Gladiators put together a drive in the
dying seconds of the half that lead to a one yard Lee Hoyt to Jeff Taylor
touchdown pass. Turnbull's convert narrowed the score to 19-14 for Simonds at
the half.
Capital Area took the lead in the
third quarter when Patrick Firth found the end zone from one yard out. Ted
Turnbull's convert made the score 21-19.
On the next series Seadogs
quarterback Richard Naves was caught scrambling and Gladiator defensive back
punched the ball loose. Capital Area defensive end Chad Ford scooped up the
loose ball and rumbles 20 yards for the touchdown. Turnbull's convert made it
28-19 for Capital Area.
Simonds would answer back with
a drive of their own. Again Naves found Jeremy Smith with a
20 yard touchdown pass. The convert was no good leaving the Gladiators ahead
28-25 at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter both
teams were able to move the ball but unable to score a touchdown. The only
scoring was Ted Turnbull's 10 yard field goal that made the final score 31-25
for the Gladiators.
The game raised $1,750 for the
education fund for Alexandre Desilets, son of former Gladiators player, the late
Nick Desilets.

The
Wanderers took the opening kickoff and mounted a long march that ended with
Kevin Muise's 5 yard touchdown run. Jeff Gillies added the convert. Marcus
Whittingham added to the lead with an electrifying 105 yard punt return for a
touchdown.
In the third quarter Jeff
Gillies booted a 35 yard field goal to extend the Wanderers lead to 16-0.
Moncton got on the board in the
fourth when Kelly Nichols hooked up with Alex Best on a 65 yard pass and run
touchdown. Saint John answered back with Jon Hachey hitting Tyrell Sparks on a
35 yard touchdown pass.

Week 4- July 12-13

Halifax Shockers 10 Moncton Marshals 7
The
Shockers opened the scoring early in the first quarter via a long passing play.
Their 7-0 lead would stand up until late in the third quarter when Alex Best's 5
yard touchdown run evened the score at 7-7.
With less than a minute to go in the
game the Shockers got close enough for Alan Wetmore to kick a 28 yard field goal
that cleared the crossbar by inches.
The Marshals were not quite finished. They
took the ball on their own 35 and marched close enough to try a 43 yard field
goal of their own on the final play of the game. Chris Gallant's kick fell just
short leaving Halifax with the win.

July 12 Saint
John Wanderers 20 Simonds Seadogs 2
After a
scoreless first quarter, Simonds kicker Blennis Noiles booted a 58 yard single
to put the Seadogs up 1-0. The Wanderers answered back with a long drive that
ended with Kevin Muise's one yard touchdown plunge. Jeff Gillies booted the
convert to give Saint John a 7-1 lead.
Wanderers QB Jon Hachey would connect with
Doug McPhee for another six pointer that made the halftime score 13-1.
Noiles added a 38 yard single for the
Seadogs in the third quarter. Hachey hooked up with McPhee again in the fourth
and Gillies booted the convert to close out the scoring.

Saint John Wanderers 28 Capital Area Gladiators 10
The
Wanderers opened the scoring midway through the first quarter when
quarterback Jon Hachey hit Tyrell Sparks with a 25 yard touchdown pass.
Saint John added to their lead early in the second quarter. This time Hachey
found Jeff Gillies in behind the Gladiator secondary and the receiver outran the
defenders on a 105 yard pass and run play for a touchdown. Gillies also
converted both touchdowns.
The Gladiators mounted a long
scoring drive of their own that culminated in Lee Hoyt's 1 yard touchdown
plunge. Ted Turnbull added the convert. Capital Area mounted another drive in
the dying seconds of the half. After a touchdown was called back by a penalty
the Gladiators settled for Ted Turnbull's 37 yard field goal.
The third quarter
belonged to Wanderers' running back Jon Haines. He rambled for touchdown runs of
40 and 50 yards. Gillies converted both TD's.

The Marshals took the opening
kickoff and marched the length of the field with Alex Best rushing for the
touchdown.
There would be no further scoring until the third quarter when
Seadogs QB Richard Naves hooked up with Mike Thomas on a 15 yard touchdown pass.
Blennis Noiles added the convert to give Simonds a 7-6 lead at the end of three
quarters.
The Marshals would regain the lead early in the fourth when
QB Mike Allen combined with Gaetan Beaulieu on a 53 yard pass and run touchdown
play

Week 2- June 28-29

Moncton Marshals 25 Capital Area Gladiators 20
The
Marshals took the opening kickoff and marched the length of the field with Shawn
Wareham's 5 yard run giving them a 6-0 lead. The Gladiators answered back with a
drive of their own capped by Lee Hoyt's 5 yard scamper.
The Gladiators took the lead on
Hoyt's 35 yard pass to Mark Huys. Ted Turnbull added the convert. However, once
again the Marshals answered back on Alex Best's 10 yard touchdown reception.
After a scoreless third quarter
another Marshal's drive was capped by Best's second touchdown of the game, a 15
yard run to put the Marshals up 18-13 with seven minutes remaining. Once again
the Gladiators answered back with a drive of their own capped by a 10 yard
halfback option pass from Billy Thomas to Mark Huys. Ted Turnbull added the
convert and the Gladiators lead 20-18 with four minutes remaining.
Once again the Marshals put together
a long drive and once again it was Best who scored on a 15 yard run. This
time Greg Smith added the convert to give the Marshals a 25-20 lead with 1:30
remaining.
The Gladiators were not about
to give up. Taking the ball on their own 25 yard line a series of passes and
runs put them on the Marshals 25 yard line with 20 seconds remaining. However, a
number of passes into the end zone were unsuccessful, leaving the Marshals to
celebrate their first win in franchise history.

Halifax Shockers 14 Saint John Wanderers 13
The Halifax
Shockers scored a touchdown with two seconds remaining in the game for a
dramatic 14-13 win over the Saint John Wanderers.
John Hachey hit Jeff Gillies with a 35 yard touchdown
pass to put the Wanderers up 6-1 at halftime.
In the third Hachey connected with Tyrell Sparks on a
71 yard touchdown pass to increase the lead to 12-1. The Wanderers were unable
to convert either touchdown.
The Shockers would score early in the fourth to narrow
the score to 12-8.
The Wanderers increased their lead to 13-8 with a
missed field goal, setting the stage for the Shockers winning touchdown, a one
yard plunge with two seconds remaining.

Week 1- June 21-22

The
Wanderers opened the scoring with a safety when the Seadogs quarterback, Richard
Naves, was forced to concede after the ball was snapped over his head. The
visitors added to their lead later in the quarter, finishing off a long drive
with a Kevin Muise two yard touchdown run. Jeff Gillies added the
convert.
For almost the next two
quarters neither team was able to put points on the scoreboard. Both offences
were able to put together significant drives but the defences were able to stop
them at the crucial point in each drive.
Finally, with only seconds
remaining in the third quarter, Kevin Muise ran off tackle, found a hole and
outraced the Seadog defenders for an 80 yard touchdown run. Gillies added the
convert.
In the fourth quarter with less than
three minutes remaining Ross Brittain swept around the left end for a 20
yard touchdown gallop. Gillies again added the convert to close out the scoring.

Capital Area Gladiators 29 Halifax Shockers 21
The Gladiators
opened the scoring on their first possession when quarterback Lee Hoyt hooked up
with Billy Thomas on a 40 yard pass and run touchdown play. A two point
conversion attempt was unsuccessful.
The Shockers answered immediately on the kickoff with
Ian Ebbett returning it 70 yards for the tying score. Quarterback Chris
Livingston passed to Todd Georgiani for the two point conversion.
In the second quarter the Gladiators regained the lead
on Billy Thomas' 30 yard scamper. Lee Hoyt rushed for the two point conversion.
Halifax would pull even in the third quarter when
Jerome Sparks picked off a Lee Hoyt pass and returned it 50 yards for the major.
In the fourth quarter the Shockers went into the lead
when a long drive was capped by a 20 yard pass from Chris Livingston to Todd
Georgiani. A kicked convert put Halifax ahead 21-14 with seven minutes to play.
The Gladiators answered back with a long drive of their
own that ended with Lee Hoyts 20 yard run for a touchdown. The convert was
unsuccessful leaving Halifax ahead 21-20 at the three minute warning.
The Capital Area defence held, giving the ball
back to the offence. Another Gladiator drive stalled deep in Halifax territory.
Ted Turnbull kicked a field goal to put the Gladiators ahead 23-21 with just
over a minute to play.
The Shockers took the ball on their 35 yard line
and marched to the Gladiator 25 yard line. With only seven seconds left on the
clock Halifax attempted a field goal. It was blocked and Billy Thomas picked up
the loose ball and rumbled 80 yards for the game's final score.
