Joey George
The 1950s was the golden age of football at St. Thomas University. At the centre of it all was fullback Joey George. The Fredericton native played a central role in winning three consecutive New Brunswick Canadian Rugby Football Union championships in the early 1950s. He scored numerous touchdowns in each championship football game to lead his team to victory. He was twice selected to the Union all-star team, first in 1953 as the only unopposed pick, and as one of three returning players in 1954. That year, in fact, more than half of the football all-stars were from the St. Thomas Tommies.
